Advent Calendar

My 2 boys got their very own Advent Calenders/Christmas Calenders yesterday. They should have had them by December 1st, so it was quite exciting getting to open 10 "windows" right away. Now, when we have caught up, it is one window each day and behind each window, there's a small but delicious treat. You think they love their calenders??? Yeahhhhhhhh!!!! :D

What is an Advent Calender?
An Advent calendar is a special calendar which is used to count or celebrate the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. Despite the name, most commercially available Advent calendars begin on December 1, regardless of when Advent. Today, most Advent calendars are made for children. Many take the form of a large rectangular card with many "windows", one of which is opened every day during Advent. In less elaborate calendars, each window opens to reveal an image, a poem, or part of a story such as the Nativity story itself. More elaborate Advent calendars have a small gift concealed in each window, such as a toy or a chocolate item. In the Scandinavian countries there is also a tradition of having a so-called julkalender (=Christmas Calendar in English) in the form of a television show starting on the 1st of December, and ending on Christmas Eve. I used to love this when I was a kid...:) It ends on the 24th of December 'cause that is our big day in this part of the world, the day when we open our Xmas gifts etc.

*fniss*

I always loved Advent calendars when I was little and wished and wished for one. I've never seen one for dogs, but if I did, I'm sure I'd have to have it! I've always loved the ones that look like little Victorian houses.
